About DotJury

Get a verdict on your next domain: free tools and guides for naming a website, and how they work.

What this website is

DotJury is a small set of free tools for people who are naming a website, blog, shop or project. You type a keyword, and the tools suggest names and check whether each one appears to be registered. There are also written guides that explain the parts of the process that tools cannot decide for you, such as how to judge a name and what to check before you register.

Why the name DotJury

Most name generators stop at producing a long list. DotJury acts more like a jury: every name gets a score with visible reasons and a clear verdict of Strong, Average or Weak, so you can see which ideas deserve your attention before you pay for one. The dot stands for the domain itself.

How the tools work

The name ideas are built in your browser from your keyword, a set of common prefixes and endings, industry word lists, optional related words and, when you enter two words, several ways of joining them. .com and .net names are checked with the Verisign registry over RDAP, and a name is shown as Available only when the registry has no record of it and no live nameservers answer for it. Other extensions are checked through a public DNS lookup, which is an indirect test, so those names are shown as Likely available. Neither is a guarantee: confirm the status at a registrar before you buy. The domain guide explains the method in more detail.

What this website does not do

This website does not register domains, sell hosting or hold accounts. It does not store the keywords you type. When you click Register, you leave this website for a registrar, and you create your account and pay there. Nothing here is legal, financial or trademark advice.

Independence from registrars

DotJury is not a registrar and is not owned by, affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any registrar or hosting provider, including the ones we link to. The only relationship is a referral: when you click a registrar link, you leave DotJury and continue on that company's website, where you create your account, pay and register the domain. We never handle your payment, your registration or your account. Registrar names and trademarks belong to their respective owners and are used only to identify where a link goes.

How the website is funded

The site is free to use. It earns money in two ways: links to registrars and hosting providers may be affiliate links, which pay a commission if you buy through them, and the site is intended to show advertising once an ad program approves it. Affiliate links are labeled next to the link and marked as sponsored in the page code, registrars are listed alphabetically rather than by commission, and these arrangements do not change how names are generated or how availability is reported.

Accuracy and limits

Availability for .com and .net comes from the registry; for other extensions it depends on public DNS responses, which can be wrong, delayed or blocked. Related words come from a third-party service and may sometimes be loosely connected to your keyword. The scores come from five visible parts (pronunciation, spelling, memorability, relevance and extension) plus a check against a short list of famous brands. They are not an appraisal, a price estimate or a trademark search, and we try to say so wherever they appear.

Third-party services this site uses

  • The Verisign registry's RDAP service, for .com and .net availability checks.
  • Cloudflare's public DNS-over-HTTPS service, for other extensions and as a fallback.
  • The Datamuse word-finding service, for related words when that option is on.
  • Google's Gemini AI models, for AI name suggestions, only when that feature is switched on and you choose to include AI suggestions.
  • Google Fonts, for the page typeface.
  • Google Analytics, for visit statistics, when it is turned on. It does not receive the keywords or domain names you type.
  • Registrar and hosting partners, only after you click a link to them.

See the Privacy Policy for what each of them receives.
